MLDS Architects: Featured Project Highlights

Located in the scenic downtown Fairfield, this 104,000 sq. ft. two story mixed use building was built in the former Fairfield Department Store site. It consists of 41,800 sq. ft. of retail space on the first floor, 41,500 sq. ft. of office space on the second floor, 20,800 sq. ft. of cellar space and a 135 car parking deck. Fairfield Center houses some high end tenants such as Victoria’s Secret, Altan Jewelers, Chico’s, Banana Republic, Ann Tailor Loft and Border’s Books.

Architecture

Architecture is considered to be both the art and science of designing and building of structures. At the same time, design maintains a balance between aesthetics and functionality. Additionally it is of the utmost importance that the built environment maintain the health, safety and welfare of all persons for which it serves. It is ultimately, through the combined efforts of the entire team, owner, architect and builder, that a project may become a reality.

Planning

Planning is an integral part of the building process. A successful project should incorporate thought in the various aspects of its scope. Each project has its own unique considerations that must be taken into account. It is in this planning process that the conclusions reached will have a significant impact on the direction the design of the project will take. The development of a project’s program, outlining its requirements and needs, will become the building blocks of the designing process.

Design

Design is a process by which a project is developed to reach its final form. This process analyzes a project’s program to discover the many various possibilities in achieving its goals. The collaboration of the owner and designer is essential in the sharing of ideas, goals, context and functions in the success of a project. A project may start as a simple parti or sketch and progress through the use of various designing techniques to develop into a presentation of the architect’s vision of the project.
